INTRODUCTION
Department observed “The World Mental Health Day” on 10/10/2022.During a week prior, activities like Debate competition & painting competition for the students of KAHER was conducted.
Department of Psychiatry of J. N. Medical College, Belgaum, established in 1974, is the first Psychiatry Department in a Medical College in North Karnataka.
The 30 bedded Psychiatry ward located in KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Charitable Hospital, has excellent facilities for in-patient care like isolation beds, separate male/female/pediatric beds.
Modified ECT, Psychological testing, EEG, Activity / Recreation Therapy, Counseling, Psychotherapy, Behavior therapy & Biofeedback Therapy are available in the department. The faculty includes qualified and experienced General Adult Psychiatrists, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatric Social Worker & Counselors.
The department is active in efficient routine and emergency patient care. The department also runs a full fledged Child and Adolescent psychiatry unit, and Geriatric (Memory) and De-Addiction Specialty Clinics. The department is actively involved in community services and in creating awareness about Mental Health.
Department is involved in undergraduate training since 1974, and post graduate ( MD psychiatry) training since 2007. MD psychiatry degree recognized by National Medical Council (MCI).
