INTRODUCTION


The commencement of the Anatomy Department is coexistent with the establishment of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in 1964 under the stewardship of Dr. B. M. Desai, the then Professor & HOD of Anatomy and Principal of JN Medical College. Over the years it has been manned by efficient teaching and technical staff headed by veteran Anatomists.


It has all ‘state-of-the-art’ teaching facilities with audio visual aids and has been regularly holding State level and National Level Conferences and Continued Medical Education Programmes. The Department is very enthusiastic in facilitating medical education with a well-equipped dissection hall which is in the process of being centrally air-conditioned with duct evacuation system. The teaching faculty is known for their student-friendly methods of teaching. Essential as it is for modern advanced Medical Teaching Institutions, this Anatomy Department has a progressive Museum exhibiting various types of anatomical and embryological specimens. Specimens of various animals are also available for comparative study.


Apart from imparting medical education to undergraduate students of various Medical, Dental and Para-Medical courses, the Department is recognized by the Medical Council of India to impart education to post-graduate students who specialize in the subject of Anatomy. The Department is also recognized by the KAHER for conducting Ph.D. courses in the field of Anatomy.
