Introduction

The department of Cardio Vascular & Thoracic Surgery was started in 1997.

Since then, this unit has grown in leaps and bounds having completed over 27,810 Cardiac surgeries and performed 12 heart transplants since 2018.

The department performs the entire spectrum of cardio vascular and thoracic surgeries- coronary artery bypass, valve replacements and repairs, complex pediatric and neonatal surgeries, emergency and elective peripheral vascular procedures, aortic surgery and all thoracic operations which include lung and mediastinum.

The service provides for excellence in complex and emergency coronary bypass, redo surgeries and ECMO.

It has a separate paediatric ICU consisting of 8 beds for the complex neonatal & paediatric cases and 23 bedded adult ICU with 4 operating rooms. The unit at present is gearing up and is all set to establish a heart transplant program.

The department is staffed with a full time, dedicated team of 8 Cardio thoracic surgeons, 5 cardiac anaesthesiologists and 6 perfusionists. There are trainees in all three specialties.

The team is supported by a very experienced team of 8 Cardiologists and two Paediatric cardiologist and a dedicated paediatric intensivist.

The entire team aims for providing quality surgery and care with good outcomes and is striving to achieve greater heights.
