INTRODUCTION
Dr. S B KALAGATE HOD, Department of Medicine Started Nephrological Services in J. N. Medical Collage attached to old KLES Hospital & MRC in the 1990.Later from 1998 on words Dr J. Jagadeesh, DR Guptha & Dr. Dhananjay continued Nephrological services till 2005.
From 2005 Dr Mallikarjun Karishetti (Khanpet) and Dr. Anand Malu started the Dept. of Nephrology. Later Dr. Ritesh Vernekar, DM Nephrology from KEM College, Mumbai in the year 2009 and Dr. Ravi Sarvi, DM Nephrology From institute of Nephro-Urology, Bangalore joined in the year 2025.
The MCI has recognized the Department for the post-Doctoral DM Nephrology course from the academic year 2020-2021 with an annual intake of three seats. DM candidate will get experience in the following area of Nephrology
- Clinical Nephrology
- Critical Care Nephrology with ICU dialysis facility
- Living related renal transplantation, Cadaveric renal transplantation
- Maintenance hemodialysis
- CAPD, IPD & procedures like Biopsy, Short term catheterization & semi- permanent catheter
- Clinical & drug research trails
Department has big outpatient hemodialysis with provision for separate HIV, HBsAg & HCV dialysis facility in addition to critical care renal replacement therapy in ICU with total 34 Machines and 2 SLEED machines. OPD dialysis works in 4 shifts and open for 24 hours.

- Tissue match & cross match
- Interventional radiology in addition to all investigative support
- Pediatric Nephrology & Urology department support
Department takes extra interest in preventive nephrology with community programmes.
