INTRODUCTION
The birth of Cardiology Department took place in June 1996 with basic investigation like ECG, Echo, TMT and 17 beded ICCU.
During January 1997, Cardiac Cath lab, was installed. At present our department consists of Two Professors, One Associate Professor & four Assistant Professors. Every month we are doing more than 500 cath procedures including 200 complex angio plasties,Device closure of shunt lesion, cardiac cath, peripheral angioplasty, Balloon Mitral Valvotomy and permanent pacemaker AICD.
Recognizing the contribution of cardiology Department, MCI has permitted to start DM Superspeciality course. We started DM cardiology Superspeciality course from 2006. Starting it was only one seat & after the MCI Inspection (2011) permitted to admit two seats for DM Cardiology. MCI Inspector Dr. Paulala Chandrashekhar on 03/06/2013 increased DM seats to three per year. Further after MCI inspection in the year 2019 DM seats were increased to five per year from the academic year 2020-21. Department offers Fellowship in Non Invasive Cardiology course 2 students , BSc Cardiac care technology course for 10 students & MSc echocardiography course for 8 students every year. The Department is conducting regular heart camps in & around Karnataka, South Maharashtra & Goa. Over last one decade department has achieved its own place in the Cardiology Map of India.
