INTRODUCTION
The birth of Cardiology Department took place in June 1996 with basic investigations like ECG, Echo, TMT and 17 beded ICCU.
In January 1997, Cardiac Cath lab, was installed. At present the department consists of two Professors, one Associate Professor & four Assistant Professors. Every month more than 500 cath procedures including 200 complex angio plasties,Device closure of shunt lesion, cardiac cath, peripheral angioplasty, Balloon Mitral Valvotomy and permanent pacemaker AICD are done.
Recognizing the contribution of the Cardiology department, MCI has permitted to start DM Superspeciality course. With only one seat, the DM Cardiology Superspeciality course began in
2006, and following successful MCI Inspections, the seats were increased to two in 2011,
three in 2013 and five in 2019. The Department also offers Fellowship in Non Invasive Cardiology course to two students, BSc Cardiac care technology course for 10 students & MSc echocardiography course for 8 students every year. The Department conducts regular heart camps in & around Karnataka, South Maharashtra & Goa. Over the last decade, the department has achieved a titular place in the Cardiology Map of India.
