“LIBRARY IS THE HEART OF A COLLEGE”

DR. S.G. DESAI LIBRARY is the Central Library of the KLE ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH and is a three storied architectural elegance built over an area of about 43,440 sq ft. with reference section, modern reading rooms (24×7), Digital Library with internet, binding section, Audio visual Room and reprographic facilities. The digital library can be accessed anywhere in the campus with WiFi and off-campus with remote access facility. The whole Library is under the surveillance of CCTV. The library is having more than 35,429 Textbooks related to health sciences worth Rs. 19.33 crores and subscription for 144 international and national print Journals and magazines related to health sciences. As many as 11,724 bound volumes of old journals are persevered in the Library. It also subscribes online journals, e-books and e-resource materials through various databases like Science Direct, MD consult, LWW & ADIS, Bentham Science, Oxford University Press, Clinical Key, upto date etc through HELINET consortium of RGUHS, which is having an access to more than 500 full text journals.

KAHER’s Institutional Repository is the digital archive of the research output of the postgraduate students and Ph.D. research scholars under various disciplines of Health science viz. Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Physiotherapy and Nursing sciences including inter disciplinary area. It also includes university exam Question Papers of previous years. The networking of entire campus provides a seamless access to all the online databases.

The services of the Library are fully automated with Easylib Software and automation covers entire gamut of Library activities such as acquisition cataloguing, circulation with provision for renewals, reservation, serial control, online public Access catalogue (OPAC) and generating various types of Reports and statistics. The multimedia section is equipped with the state of art computer systems and equipments, plasma screen Television, DVD, Video and Audio players and informative CDs.

The Library Reference section is open for the users from 9.00am to 10.00 pm on all working days and 10.30 am to 5.30 pm on Sundays and other holidays. However, the Reading Room (2nd floor) is open round the clock (24×7). The reference section is fully air conditioned. There are various reading rooms such as PG Reading Room with carrels, reference section, UG Reading Room and Staff Reading Room and also separate section for Newspaper/Magazine and a separate well-furnished Group Discussion Room facility is made available for students/users. There is new-arrival display Rack for the new titles of books /Journals. The staffs working in the Library are well qualified and service oriented. There are three working shifts. In every floor, purified drinking water and wash room facility is available.
